The Hunting Wind The Hunting Wind » The Hunting Wind

In an unprecedented literary feat, Steve Hamilton's debut novel,A Cold Day in Paradise, captured both the prestigious Edgar and Shamus awards. Now the best-selling author presents the third installment in his critically acclaimed mystery series: a complex, atmospheric tale that will plunge readers back into icy, unpredictable Alex McKnight territory, where the private investigator finds himself doing a favor for an old friend-but this favor could cost him his life...In the remote, wintry reaches of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, it's hard for a man to remember what springtime is like, let alone Spring Training. But when a former teammate tracks him down, erstwhile minor league player Alex McKnight is instantly transported back to the good old Toledo dugout, circa 1971. Unfortunately, Randy Wilkins didn't trek 3,000 miles to the bleak shores of Lake Superior to sit by the fire with a couple of imported beers, dissecting the past, inning by glorious inning. He's here to pitch a proposal: that Alex help him find the woman with whom he had a brief, passionate affair three decades ago. Who is Alex to deny a fellow the chance to ward off classic midlife chill by rekindling an old flame? What he doesn't consider is that there might be a good reason the mysterious, missing Maria is more elusive than a starting position in the majors-and that his trusted old pal might not have told him the whole score...

Do not allow the sorrow of grieving to interfere with the power of hatred and revenge. This message, delivered by a family matriarch (Marieta Severo), is clearly understood by the three sisters who are the title characters in THE THREE MARIAS. The sisters are called home when their father and two brothers are brutally murdered in separate slayings, all ordered by a man from their mother's past. The grieving widow and mother responds to the killings by commanding her daughters to act. She assigns each daughter a hitman in order to avenge the deaths. Various complications keep these mercenaries from carrying out their tasks and the sisters must take it upon themselves to finish the job, as each of the Marias targets one of the three killers. The eye-for-an-eye mentality of this Brazilian thriller is just one of many themes drawn from the Bible. Gothic imagery and quotes from the scriptures also harken back to biblical roots while the remote Brazilian locations add a grim, melodramatic quality to the film.DVD Features:Region (unknown)

Claude Monet - The Lunch Framed Canvas » Claude Monet - The Lunch Framed Canvas

Working outside, Monet painted simple landscapes and scenes of contemporary middle-class society by capturing the transient effects of natural light. In Monet's The Lunch, the peacefulness of the setting with splashes of vermilion flowers contrast with the languid characters cast about the luncheon table; a parasol rests on the bench.

Generally regarded as the leader of the Impressionist school, Monet had achieved significant recognition and financial security by the mid-1880s. Recognized as a master of meticulous observation in spite of his bold use of color and the extreme simplicity of his compositions, he effectively sacrificed neither the true complexities of nature nor the intensity of his own feelings.
