In this eighth chronicle of his adventures, Detective Abe Lieberman is faced with a host of troubles. First, he's accompanying a mob hitman being extradited to Chicago when the man is himself killed at the airport. As Lieberman investigates who hired the shooter, he must also mediate between volatile Chinese and Latino gangs, and plan his grandson's bar mitzvah. At the same time, his partner, Bill Hanrahan is busy tracking down the three men who raped a fellow cop's wife and protecting his own wife Iris from the too-persistent attentions of her cousin, who objects to Iris's pregnancy.
