An Osage Indian layabout named John Grayeagle has been raised by his grandfather. When he inherits property from an older sister, he finds that his easy life is over--he has responsibilities. One of the problems is whether to handle them himself or turn over his new estate to the Bureau of Indian Affairs--and as he tries to make his decision, he discovers that murder and fraud are part of the equation. This novel takes place in the 1920s, and is part of the American Indian Literature Series published by the University of Oklahoma.
