Annie Szabo's best friend is Jerry, who was once married to the sister of Annie's late husband. If truth be told, Annie has never gotten along that well with her husband's family, a flamboyant Romany clan.

When Jerry is murdered, Annie and her mother-in-law Mina, a tough, much-married fortuneteller, team up to find the killer. In the process, Annie will meet the Hummingbird Wizard, a sexy, dangerous man.
