One of the three most important figures (the others being Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler) in the development of hard-boiled and noir fiction, James M. Cain was perhaps best known for a radical mixture of sex and violence that remains blunt and shocking years after the original publication of these works in the 1930s and 1940s. This anthology collects three of Cain`s best-known works (all made into successful movies), along with five short stories.
