Food writer Carolyn Blue accompanies her professor husband to an academic conference in New Orleans. While in New Orleans, Carolyn plans to research Cajun cooking and see her childhood friend Julienne. When Julienne disappears after a fight with her husband, local authorities are lackadaisical about finding her, so Carolyn takes it upon herself.
