In the Hand of Dante

In this postmodern novel, the author himself, Nick Tosches, makes an appearance as the expert brought in to validate an original manuscript of THE DIVINE COMEDY. The man who hires him is a New York mobster whose actual aim is to steal it. On the road to the novel's conclusion, Tosches gets in a number of shots at the publishing business and its denizens, not least his own editor, and includes a biography of Dante. A New York Times Notable Book for 2002.
