The Way the Crow Flies

In 1960s Canada, the McCarthys are an extraordinarily happy family--or seem to be. Jack is an officer in the Air Force, his wife Mimi is a model wife and mother, and their two kids are all they could wish. But underneath the bliss, there is trouble: Jack is charged with looking after a Russian defector scientist who turns out to be a brutal ex-Nazi, and little Madeleine's teacher is molesting her and several classmates. When one of her friends is murdered, the family begins to unravel as destructive secrets are hoarded and then gradually revealed at both domestic and government levels.
