who specialize in using new technology and improved police techniques to find the answers to long-unsolved cases. His first assignment at the Open Unsolved unit involves the 1988 kidnap/murder of 16-year-old Rebecca Verloren. DNA found on the murder weapon proves to be that of a white supremacist, suggesting that Rebecca`s biracial heritage may have prompted the killing--a possibility which, curiously enough, was not pursued during the original investigation. In the course of his inquiries, Bosch discovers hints of a police conspiracy, and also learns just how much and how painfully Rebecca`s death affected the future course of her parents` lives.
